Alma is a famous animated short film produced by Spanish ex-Pixar animator Rodrigo Blaas which had received notable recognition at the Fantastic Fest awards in 2009. It is a dark fairy tale about a little girl named Alma, who skips through the snow covered streets of a small town, when her attention is caught by a doll on a shop window who appears to be her look-a-like. The word “alma” in Spanish means “soul”.
Written and directed by Rodrigo Blaas, music by Mastretta, animation by Daniel Peixe, ManueBover, Remi Hueso.
In October 2010, it was announced that DreamWorks Animation was developing an animated feature film based on Alma with Rodrigo Blaas directing and Guillermo del Toro executive producing it. While there was ongoing developments since then, last month Guillermo del Toro confirmed that he is no longer working on the project.
