Born in 1987 in Madrid, Leila Amat Ortega studied Spanish Language and Literature from 2005 to 2010 at the Alcalá University in Madrid. A self-taught artist, Leila Amat Ortega realized, during her career, the almost therapeutical effect of photography on her. She tries to imagine certain negative emotions as a drive to visualize them and create an image. Since she started taking photographs, she wanted every image to be a universe, a parallel world where a character that doesn’t exist in the real world should live. With time, she realized that sometimes a photograph can be more real than her life. Leila Amat Ortega appears in most of her photographs, but these are not self portraits, as on every photograph she puts herself in her characters’ shoes in order to convey a different story. Each photograph is a language that lets us to live and analyze, a tool that, with a little bit of imagination, can make us dream.
