Adam Matak was born in Canada. He began his studies with a BA in Fine Art from the University of Windsor School of Visual Arts, continued with a BA in Education from the University of Toronto and recently obtained an MA in Fine Art from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at the Tufts University. Matak makes objects and environments that complicate notions of cultural value and the function of historic objects. In his works on canvas, he uses a visual style with an optimistic idealization somewhere between a graphic novel and a stained glass window, which helps evoke a narrative that lives somewhere between fact and fiction. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and has had both group and solo exhibitions in Canada and the US. Until the 13th of March, you can see his work at the Thames Art Gallery, Ontario, Canada in the Homecoming exhibition.
