Kimberly Trowbridge is a performance artist. Her most well-known act is the creation of luscious, bucolic oil paintings that remind us of Poussin’s allegories or Cezanne’s Bathers, but Kimberly isn’t being nostalgic about all that. Rather, she is collecting raw data, en plein-air, from her surroundings and constructing images in a collage-like manner that reflect and narrate her experience. We, as her audience, get to witness how her painting process informs and brings meaning to her life-experience because these very works become the “props” within her stage sets and function to inform or remind us of their use. She lives and works in Seattle, Washington.
