The cat and the sun

cat

A poem of Maurice Carême, born in Wavre, Belgium (1899–1978)

The cat opened her eyes,
The sun entered.
The cat closed her eyes,
The sun stayed.
That’s why at night
When the cat wakes up
I see in the dark
Two pieces of sun.
