“A Love Story” is a beautifully crafted animated short, directed by Saschka Unseld and animated by Passion Pictures for the CAA Marketing agency and Chipotle’s latest campaign. The music theme is an “I Want It That Way” cover, performed by Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes and Jim James of My Morning Jacket, produced by Blake Mills.
The story follows two young entrepreneurs Ivan and Evie. The moment Ivan saw Evie it was love at first sight. Needing money to ask her to a movie, Ivan starts innocently competing with Evie’s food stand. The result devolves into a thirty-year-long fast food rivalry. Using every trick in the book, they unwittingly abandon their integrity to win customers. But when they can no longer recognize their monstrous creations, they ultimately discover what truly matters.
“A Love Story” is the third in Chipotle’s series of animated short films, the first of which is 2011’s “Back to the Start” and the second is 2013’s award-winning “The Scarecrow”. Passion Pictures won the Cyber Grand Prix, Gold in Film “Entertainment & Leisure” and Silver in Film Craft “Animation” at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity earlier this year for the “Justino” Spanish lottery ad.
