“Divers” is a short experimental animation film created by Paris Mavroidis while pursuing his MFA in Digital Arts at the Pratt Institute. The music is by Kaki King. As part of the project, Paris also developed a choreography-based animation toolset which he subsequently used during the animation process.
The film explores the abstraction of the human body into shape and the absorption of the individual into the mass and was inspired by Busby Berkeley, mass gymnastics and experimental cinema from the 20s and 30s. The multi-awarded film was screened in more than 70 film festivals worldwide and was a finalist in the 36th Student Academy Awards.
Paris Mavroidis is a filmmaker, artist and software developer based in Brooklyn, NY. He holds a BSc in Computer Science from Brown University and an MFA in Digital Arts from Pratt Institute. He currently works as a freelance 3D artist / programmer in New York City.
