Frank Machalowski is a Berlin-born German award winning photographic artist and photographer, who lives and works in Leipzig. He studied Economics in Berlin and applied himself to various trades until 2011, when he started to work as a freelance photographer and artist. He first got into photography as a hobby and at the beginning he was mainly into digital photography. He then started shifting back to film, as he found the charming characteristics and atmosphere of film photography, to be more fascinating. Today he develops and prints some of his photos by himself. His major areas of interest are the city and the country side, two opposite fields with major differences and potential for a perfect interaction. Some photographs from his “Monster”, “Multiexpo” and “Tierwald” series, have been shown at renowned galleries and festivals in Germany, France, USA, Spain, UK and Italy. He is also part of a permanent collection at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France in Paris. Since 2014 he is a part of the “Berlin-Photography” project, represented by the Carpentier Gallery in Berlin, a collective of 32 photographers concerned with the city of Berlin. Selected works were offered for sale at YDP, a resource for collectors of fineart photography from the California Duncan Miller Gallery. He is also listed at online art publications such as Art Photo Index and LensCulture. Besides artistic activity, he works for musicians and private persons as a portrait and stills photographer, working mainly with analogue photographic techniques.
