Evan is a remarkably powerful PSA film directed by Henry-Alex Rubin of Smuggler and created by BBDO New York for Sandy Hook Promise. The art direction is by Martins Zelcs, the direction of photography is by Ken Seng, and the soundtrack is “Johnny Met June“, written and performed by Shelby Lynne.
The short film follows, or so it seems, the story of Evan, a teenager who finds himself starting an unexpected relationship as the school year winds down.
“Evan” went viral as its disorienting ending effectively points out the importance of perspective while highlighting how signs of impending violence are often ignored. Sandy Hook Promise is an american non-profit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Their intent is to honour all victims of gun violence by turning their tragedy into a moment of transformation by providing research-based programs and practices such as the “Know the Signs” initiative, that protect children and prevent the senseless, tragic loss of life from gun violence in homes, schools and communities.
