Bruno Pontiroli is a French surreal artist and a dreamer who loves images. The objects that emerge from his dreamlike visions make up a universe where centaurs co-exist with mermaids and fish with legs. A place where pregnant women’s bellies can be cubic-shaped, where clouds have vertebrae and snowmen have spinal cords. A poetic world where everything is alive, at least for a while. Pontiroli’s works have their own [sur]reality: the improbable becomes meaningful and the unlikely images never cease to amaze. If you abandon yourself to their light, you’ll be carried away into your own dreams. Nobody sees the same thing and as dreams come to life, everything is possible. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Italy, Spain, France and the US as well as in several art publications. He lives and works in Paris, France.
In his own words:
Imagine a world based on a different logic; a universe comprised of the absurd and paradoxes. A dream in which aircraft crash into clouds and snowmen model a human body using flakes of skin. My aim is turn the narrow vision that we have of the world upside down and disturb our imagination while shaking an accepted reality with images that are as comprehensible as they are familiar. Distorting a symbol or mixing opposing universes allows me to question the identity of things so that I can reinvent them.
