Carmelita Iezzi is a conceptual photographer and professional graphic designer from Italy. Having studied in Art School, Carmelita got her BA in Graphic Design and Fine Art Photography at the Poliarte Academy in Ancona. She has worked for various companies as a freelance photographer, graphic and web designer and has travelled extensively in Greece, UK and the US. What began as self-expression developed into a unique language as her work captures silent or otherwise overlooked moments to create images of visual poetry. Her passion for painting and art history made Carmelita focus on the use of natural light preferring strong contrasts that characterise her photos not only in black & white but also in colour. Focusing on landscape and portrait photography, she has developed her own particular style by weaving surrealistic and dreamlike stories that convey a quiet stillness of emotion with a contemplation to the natural surroundings. Her stories combine nature and the human figure in a poetic and unique vision. Carmelita has distinguished herself by achieving international recognition and has exhibited in Italy, France, Greece and the US. Her work has been published in different magazine and art publications worldwide. She currently work and lives near Rome, Italy.
In her own words:
My artistic skills developed quite early, I was 14 years old when I bought my first analog 35 mm camera. The use of natural light and being carried away by my emotions to conceive an idea and to transform it through the lens of my camera, is the essence of my photographic work. I take inspiration from the little things of everyday life. I try to open my eyes and look at things in a different perspective than others, offering myself in everything I do. I let myself be carried away by dreams and emotions and when I have an idea in my head I try to turn it into a project. Usually it takes time to work on it, and I have to wait for the right moment, the right place and the right light. Sometimes it all happens randomly. In my photos I try to transfer my emotions to the viewer.
