In this fairy tale about relativity, a cuckoo clock narrates a day where bread was sliced one second thick, lovers fell in sync and time rarely flowed at an even rate.
Max Porter (USA) and Ru Kuwahata (Japan) are award-winning animation directors. Specializing in mixed-media narratives, they are particularly interested in marrying analogue and digital animation techniques, often combining handcrafted art, CG animation, drawn animation, stop-motion and photographic effects. Since 2008, Max & Ru have been working together as “Tiny Inventions”. They have directed and produced TV commercials, music videos, PSAs and independent films. They are currently working on their 4th short film in Vendome, France with Ikki Films. “Between Times” started while they were artist-in-residence at the Netherlands Institute for Animation Film (NIAF) in 2011-2012 and combines traditional stop-motion techniques with new innovations in computer graphics. Blending the two techniques, they created a distinct visual style that required three years of research, development and production. The film screened in more than 70 film festivals around the world and received more than 15 international awards and numerous nominations.
